Eleven residential burglaries were reported in December, according to South Pasadena Police Department's crime map released Friday.

While this number is down from 15 in November, it is still above average. And Police Chief Joe Payne spoke about this uptick in property crimes, which has continued through January, at Wednesday's City Council meeting.

"Particularly ... Friday through Monday—over the long weekend—we arrested over a dozen individuals for felony offenses ... in South Pasadena, that's a lot," he explained to City Council.

Seven of those individuals were arrested for residential burglary, he said, thanks to a timely notification from the public.

"In two of those cases, we were fortunate enough to make those arrests because of  ... witnesses who took it upon themselves to tell us about the suspicious activity," he said.

Payne urged residents to call the police department immediately if they ever notice an instance out of the ordinary: "We need the public's help and assistance ... anytime they even feel the least bit uncomfortable."

Residents can call: (626)403-7297 or 911.

my husband was robbed at gun point after leaving the ATM (he was walking) when it was Washington Mutual on Lyndon a few years back. African american males, pulled up to him over near the high school pool, took his cell phone and were nice enough to let him hand over his money and keep the rest of the wallet. Criminals can just sit in the Pavilions parking lot and wait for the right opportunity.

@H.M. Thanks for sharing—definitely something residents should be aware of. What time of day/night did this happen?
