Hundreds Flock to Holy Family's Thanksgiving Giveaway (Photos)

With huge community support, and a large contingent of local volunteers, Holy Family's Food Pantry provided hundreds of needy families and seniors citizens with complete Thanksgiving dinners.

Recipients lined up early Monday and waited in the brisk morning air to get a turkey with all the fixings, along with bags of groceries. The event was made possible by the generosity of local residents and parishioners. Numerous volunteers and school kids donated their time to make the event successful.

Local South Pasadena Police officer Pat Greene was joined by retired sergeant Joe Lunnon to provide security, despite his having just worked a lengthy shift in town. Kids from area schools helped with a variety of tasks, including carrying groceries for those unable to do so. Some volunteers prepared snacks and sandwiches, while others helped with the food distribution and bagging.

The annual event allowed many to enjoy a full Thanksgiving dinner they would otherwise not be able to afford. The event was headed up by Giving Bank director Carrie Lu Sue. The church also organizes a yearly event at Christmas where dinners and toys are given to the underprivileged.
