1. Farmers' Market
The weekly South Pasadena Farmers' Market will be held Thursday, Oct. 24, at and around the intersection of El Centro Street and Meridian from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Come and get your fresh produce and other goodies for the week.2. Architecture Author Night
Stephen Gee, a producer for ITV Studios in Los Angeles, and Debi Howell-Ardila, a senior architectural historian for Sapphos Environmental as well as a South Pasadena Cultural Heritage commissioner, are scheduled to give presentations at the South Pasadena Library Community Room on Thursday, Oct. 24, starting at 7 p.m. Gee will discuss his recently published book, “Iconic Vision: John Parkinson, Architect of Los Angeles,” which focuses on Parkinson (1861-1935), who designed and helped creat 400 buildings in Los Angeles, including the Coliseum and Union Station. Howell-Ardila will talk about nationally acclaimed South Pasadena architect Whitney R. Smith (1911-2002), who served on the Planning Commission and the Community Redevelopment Agency of South Pasadena.
3. SPUSD Board of Education special meeting
The South Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education is scheduled to hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, to discuss the process whereby a search firm called the Cosca Group will go about finding the next superintendent of the SPUSD to succeed Joel Shapiro, who is scheduled to retire in February 2014. 4. Halloween Spooktacular
Mark your calendars: The City of South Pasadena's annual Halloween Spooktacular is scheduled on Friday, Oct. 25, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. atOrange Grove Park, located at 815 Mission St., near the Orange Grove Avenue intersection. 5. John Muir film
Mark your calendars: The South Pasadena Library Community Room will be the venue Friday, Oct. 25, of The Boyhood of John Muir, an award-winning feature-length film based on the adventures of Sierra Club founder and naturalist, conservationist and writer John Muir. The film, free of cost, starts at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
