1. NREC meeting

The South Pasadena Natural Resources and Environmental Commission is scheduled to meet today, Tuesday, Jan. 28, starting at 7 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, located 1424 Mission St. No agenda has yet been posted on the city's website, but questions may be directed to Water Conservation Analyst Debby Figoni at (626) 403-7311 or via e-mail at dFigoni@southpasadenaca.gov.

2. Mission Wines Tax-Free Tuesday

South Pasadena's only boutique wine store, Mission Wines, located on 1114 Mission St., will offer its typically delicious flight of wines through the day today, Tuesday, Jan. 28, without charging sales tax. www.mission-wines.com. (626) 403-9463.

3. Mystery Author Night

Mark your calendars: Two local mystery authors, Ro Ruffalo and Frank Girardot, are scheduled to discuss their books during a free Author Night event in the South Pasadena Library Community Room, 1115 El Centro St., on Thursday, Jan. 30, starting at 7 p.m. The first author is Ro Ruffalo, a first-time novelist whose “Truly Disturbed: The Upland Murders,” is a swift-paced story about a policewoman who shadows a serial killer. The second author is Frank Girardot, whose scintillating true-crime book, “Name Dropper: Investigating the Clark Rockefeller Mystery,” revolves around Rockefeller impersonator Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, who was sentenced in 2013 to 27 years to life for a murder in San Marino. 

4. Farmers Market

The weekly South Pasadena Farmers Market will be held Thursday, Jan. 30, at and around the intersection of El Centro Street and Meridian from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Come and get your fresh produce and other goodies for the week.
