Patch Blog: Have You Been to Fiore Market Café?

At just 18 months young, husband and wife duo Bill and Anne create a truly personal community experience at Fiore Market Café in South Pasadena. If you love bread, this is the place to go!

Don’t blink or else you might just miss it. In fact, I had driven around in circles looking for until I realized it was right before my very eyes. At just 18 months young, husband and wife duo Bill and Anne create a truly personal community experience at Fiore Market Café in South Pasadena. They wear many hats. As the in-house chefs, bakers, and waiters, the duo also makes sure to speak to everyone and make a connection with all patrons.

Fiore transports you to a secret botanical garden. They have a little patio that is surrounded by their hand grown container garden of lettuces, herbs, tomatoes, and flowers.  They also put out markers and scratch paper to keep the kids or inner-kids-at-heart occupied.

It’s a sensory overload. While sitting enclosed in a garden with fresh flowers, herbs and vegetables that they make your food out of, butterflies are also flying around as you eat.  The extraordinary smells that seep out of the kitchen also get you hungry for more.

But aside from the lovely ambiance, the real reason to visit Fiore is for the amazing bread. Bill and Anne bake their bread fresh daily themselves. The bread is soft and fluffy. Bill confessed to me that he refuses to serve bread that is not made fresh daily. In fact, arrive at the end of the day and Bill will give away his remaining unsold bread. His motto is quality over quantity and he refuses to serve any patrons bread that is not absolutely perfect. The food is very fresh and organic whenever possible, with vegan and vegetarian options as well.

I ordered the short rib sandwich ($9.25), a popular choice at Fiore. It came on soft, fluffy bread with a great crispy crust, a mound of Asian cole slaw, pickles and chipotle mayo.  There was also a side of salad tossed with balsamic vinaigrette.

My favorite dish that I will most definitely be returning for is the cold rare roast beef, which was served on homemade bread with balsamic red onions, roasted red bell pepper, arugula and horseradish creme fraiche for $8.75. It was absolutely delicious. You could taste the freshness.

And worry not yelpers, Fiore also offers a free cappuccino check in special, regularly $3.25. Fiore also offers bread and pizza making classes as well. There’s something for everyone. Fiore Market Café is nestled between a preschool and pilates studio at: 1000 Fremont Avenue. South Pasadena, CA 91030.
