5 Things You Need to Know Today Dec. 18

Even though the weather forecast predicts a day full of rain, there are still plenty of events happening around town.

 1. Join Frank McDonough from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at the  Library in Arcadia as he looks at the history and consequences of mankind's genetic manipulation by specimens at the Arboretum. The class (part of the "Around the World in 127 Acres" series) is $7 for nonmembers and $5 for members of the Aboretum. For more information, click here.

2. Saturday equals Cardio Belly Dance! Or, at least it does at 10 a.m. at , where attendees can enjoy an hour and of half of Middle Eastern dance combined with stretching from yoga and pilates. Click here for more information.

3.  boys varsity soccer will host a game against returning alumni at 11 a.m. This is sure to be a fun-spirited, friendly game; if you can stand the cold, come down to the field!

4. The Mount Washington Plein Air Painters present their latest exhibition, "Traffic," tonight from 2 p.m.- 9 p.m. The paintings will be on display at 1504 Mission St. today and Dec. 23 before the exhibit closes. The paintings represent the artists' responses to both the beauty and the dysfunction of freeways, spurring appreciation, reflection, and critique, and they are done in oil and water color. Artists include Diane Behrens, John Byram, Ann Dudrow, Roderick Smith, Kevin Spitze, Richard Willson, and Donna Wolff. 

5. If you're a little on the wild side, you might be interested in the 3rd Annual Pasadena Drunken Santa Pub Crawl. Party-goers, who are expected to don some kind of holiday costume, be it Santa or otherwise, are slated to meet at Lucky Baldwin's (17 S. Raymond Ave., Pasadena) at 7:30 p.m. From there, patrons will parade through the street and visit several bars. Click here for more information.
