City Calls Special Meeting for Cracked Crosswalks

Residents feel the contractor, American Asphalt, should be held accountable for cracked crosswalks.

Topics discussed at Monday's Fair Oaks Construction Corridor community meeting included bulb-outs and broken crosswalks.

"We understand the mechanics of the failure," said Sam Talebian of DMR Team, regarding the cracked crosswalks, also mentioning that they are "uncommon" and were "unexpected."

Residents feel the contractor, American Asphalt, should be held accountable. Yet while the City is holding a special meeting Monday to discuss how the problem will be eradicated, Talebian said whether or not American Asphalt can be held liable will be determined at a later date.

Residents were also presented with options for completion of bulb-outs. Drawings displayed at the meeting can be viewed to your right. Talebian said one of three things could be done:

  1. Nothing.
  2. Treatment with a vertical element, such as raised landscape planters.
  3. A white stripe along the edge of the gutter to mimic the geography of the bulb-outs.

Talebian's recommendation was to go with option No. 3 and said this striping could be enhanced with raised pavement markers later if necessary.
