South Pas Priest Battles Rare Cancer - Here's How to Help

South Pasadena's Cycle Annex is hosting a post-Thanksgiving benefit for Jon Dephouse, a 32-year-old triathlete and father of two whom doctors diagnosed with Pleomorphic Rhabdomyosarcoma in October.

Who couldn't use a little exercise the day after Thanksgiving?

On Friday and Saturday, The Cycle Annex will hold a fundraiser for local priest Jon Dephouse who suffers from a rare and aggressive form of soft tissue cancer. The Ride for Jon consists of seven separate, hour-long indoor cycling classes from which to choose, with a per-bike price of $39.25. Each class will be taught by a high-energy, experienced indoor cycling instructor. Riders of all levels - from beginner to advanced - are encouraged to participate.

All proceeds will go directly to the family of Dephouse, a priest at South Pasadena's St. James' Episcopal Church.

Earlier this fall, doctors diagnosed the 32-year-old triathlete with Pleomorphic Rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer that predominately affects children younger than 10.

Although the diagnosis was hard to accept, both Jon and his wife Sarah, are extremely grateful that Jon is the one fighting this battle instead of one of their children, according to a press release promoting the fundraiser. Jon enjoys an active and healthy lifestyle with his wife, and their sons Caleb, 5, and Josiah, 1. Jon was an NAIA All American in track and field and has spent the last seven years competing as a triathlete

Though the Dephouse family does have health insurance, cancer is expensive. There is an overwhelming amount of co-pays, transportation, childcare, and treatment expenses. You can learn more about Jon’s battle at http://www.bikingbeforedawn.blogspot.com/.
