Firefighters Battle Blaze Inside Home

Fire place is possibly to blame for the large fire Friday night.

Firefighters battled a house fire that persisted for nearly an hour Friday night.

Authorities were dispatched around 10:50 p.m. to the fire in the 1300 block of Milan Avenue. Firefighters immediately observed heavy smoke coming through the attic of the two story house. As they fought the contain the flames, fire fighters determined the ignition point came from a fire place, according to scanner reports.

The fire extended inside the walls and made it difficult for fire fighters to control. By 11:30 p.m., firefighters had the flames extinguished on the first floor, but continued to fight the flames still burning inside the walls encroaching towards the attic, according to scanner reports.
