Has a Bear Been Opening Up Your Car Doors?

One Monrovia resident says a local bear has figured out how to get into her car in its search for food.

Will the hillsides soon have a need for bear-resistant cars?

One local resident said in an email to Patch Wednesday that a bear has figured out how to get inside her car by opening the car door, and it's let itself in more than once.

"A bear has opened my car door (as well as my husband's) 2 times in the past few days," Norumbega Drive resident Nina Rambeau wrote. "This is a first for me and though there was an orange and some nuts left inside the 1st time, there was no food the 2nd time."

Rambeau said her neighbors should be on the lookout for the car burglar bear.

"I'd like to warn others that this is a particularly smart bear and hungry as always and on the hunt for people food," she wrote.

Have you encountered this bear? Have any bears broken into any unusual places near your home?

Whenever I bring a pizza home, bears vs my car is the first thing I think of. Better they open the door than they tear the exterior off trying to get in. A few years ago a neighbor came home late after stopping off at the store on the way home from work. She lugged the human food into the house but left a large bag of dog food in the car planning to remove it in the morning. Her car was declared "totaled". The bear never got into the passenger compartment but there wasn't much left intact on the outside. This incident gave me a new respect for Saturns:-)

A few years ago my buddy talked me into pulling our travel trailer down into Kings Canyon to the Kings River. We found a campsite and setup to spend a few days. That DARK the wife and son went to bed early while I stayed at the fire with my buddy. I called it a day around midnight. Within minutes the trailer started rocking. I could here metal and plastic tearing. Found the flashlight and shined it through the front window and standing at the hitch was a BIG bear trying to eat the battery. Guess he believed it was a picnic basket. The next morning the ranger warned us to hang our food from trees cause a hungry bear will tear the door off a trailer if he smells food. BTW we see more bears more often here at home in Monrovia than we ever have in the HS's. Gates have been torn open three times this fall. We Love our bears.

you could always leave the keys in the ignition, a couple bucks in the change console and set the gps to Ralphs , let them get their own food.
