Here is the 2014 South Pas Rose Float Entry

The South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association has unveiled Outer Space Vacation.

Will it be a three-peat next year?

In January, the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses won the Founder's Trophy for most beautiful float built by volunteers, and the year before SPTOR won the Fantasy Trophy.

Chris Colburn, construction chair and committee vice president, is hopeful for a third award winning year.

Colburn described next year's float, "Outer Space Vacation," as a whimsical take on the 2014 Rose Parade theme of "Dreams Come True," and depicts a family vacation in space. The vacationers are posed for their photo atop one of the most elaborately colored floats in recent South Pas float history. All the while they're awaiting for an alien photographer to snap his shutter on a moment of the family's dream vacation.

This float will have have some very entertaining animation, and will feature a satellite depicting a 1950's "Buck Rogers" style rocket ship towing a teardrop trailer, Colburn said.

Last year, the South Pas float was certified as "California Grown" by the California Grown Campaign, and committee members are aiming for another year of using floral and other plant-based elements grown in the Golden State. This year's float will feature almost 70 percent coverage in live floral material that will include several bright colors of roses, mums and Gerbera Daisies along with raw cotton and a multitude of beans and seeds.
