Local Historian Rick Thomas Presents Author Talk at Library Thursday Night

Historian Rick Thomas to discuss local history books in an Author Talk at 7 p.m. on Dec. 2 at the South Pasadena Library Community Room.

The  and the present a Holiday Author Night with local historian Rick Thomas Thursday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. in the library's . Thomas will discuss his four recent local history titles: South Pasadena,The Arroyo SecoSouth Pasadena's Ostrich Farm, and South Pasadena's Raymond Hotel. All four titles were recently released by Arcadia Publishing as part of their popular "Images of America" series. 

The presentation will highlight the storied history of South Pasadena and the author's discoveries in researching his books. Thomas will also show an assortment of early South Pasadena photos, many from the days when orange groves ruled the terrain. The talk will include a Q & A with the audience and free refreshments will be provided.

The Entendre String Quartet will open the evening with a selection of holiday tunes. The group, which has toured nationally and internationally, is comprised of violinists Marisa McLeod and Sharon Harmon, viola player Sharon Ray, and cello player Rebecca Yeh.

In addition, The Friends will sell discounted copies of the book, South Pasadena: A Centennial History 1888-1988, Second Edition with Chronology, 1988-2008 by award-winning historian Jane Apostol. The updated edition of the classic book was released in November 2008 with an original price tag of $44.95 and quickly sold about 1,000 copies. The Friends are offering the book at a sale price of $24.95 and a limited number of pre-signed books by Jane Apostol will be available at Thursday's event.
