Photo: Parade Participants Protest 710 Tunnel

The annual South Pas parade brought out a contingent of opponents to the 710 extension.

Residents from multiple cities showed Metro again on Thursday that they want no part of a tunnel running below their or their neighbors' cities.

Members of the No 710 Action Committee came from South Pasadena, Alhambra, San Marino, Altadena, El Sereno, Los Angeles, La Crescenta, La Cañada and Glendale to protest a proposed 4.5-mile tunnel to connect the Long Beach (710) and Foothill (210) freeways. They carried signs down Mission Street during the annual South Pas Fourth of July parade.

Opponents, who have been fighting against the 710 extension for some 60 years, carried a banner showing the dangers of a vehicle fire in a tunnel. Opponents further object to an increase in air pollution and traffic on city streets, a route drivers may prefer to having to pay a toll.
