Slideshow: Bear Mama and Cub Climb Around Monrovia Neighborhood

A hillside resident sent Patch this video slideshow of her encounters with bears earlier this week.

Monrovia resident Ann Kee pulled out her phone and shot these photos of bears roaming near Myrtle Avenue and Scenic Drive on November 4.

Kee certainly takes pleasure in watching the bears--she shot this video of them frolicking in her pool last year--but she also warns that they have caused her trouble.

"They are cute but becoming very destructive," she wrote in an email.

@Ann - these photos are fantastic! Were you scared to be so close? Or, did you use zoom?

We just spent a few days in Sequoia and didn't see a single bear, and we Usually Do! I guess they are all in Monrovia!

I was in my car. The shots are through the window. In one shot you can even see the windshield wipers. They pretty much are afraid of people. These two ignored me even with the window down and the radio playing music loud. In the pool video it was with a zoom and also through the window.

These two look like the same mother-&-cub pair that come by our block, Granite Ave. We named them Aromama and Junior... The mom's rather 'fragrant'. They are not bothered by humans, it seems, but also not aggressive. Every few days we see Junior taking his afternoon nap in one neighbor's oak tree... He doesn't care if my dog is barking at him up there.

@Mike Day: those are terrific pictures. When and where did they happen, and do you have more?
