South Pas Boy Scout Earns Eagle Scout Award

To earn his Eagle Scout award, Nick Backus built a new patio at Heritage Square Museum in Los Angeles.

A South Pasadena Boy Scout earned recognition for achieving the highest rank in the Boy Scouts, receiving his Eagle Scouts award fir his work on a brick patio at Heritage Square Museum in Los Angeles, reports PasadenaNow.com.

Boy Scouts Troop 516 member Nick Backus achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, a rank only 4 percent of all Boy Scouts earn. To earn an Eagle Scouts award, a scout must achieve all scouting ranks, earn 21 merit badges, and organize and complete a service project.

Backus, a student at Bridges Academy in Studio City, served several summers as a camp counselor at Holcomb Valley Boy Scout Camp near Big Bear Lake. For his project, Backus spearheaded the installation of a brick patio at Heritage Square Museum. Backus worked closely with museum directors about design elements for the patio, soliciting donations and assembling the patio using historic materials.
