South Pas Float Wins Founders' Trophy

The 2013 trophy marks back-to-back wins for the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Committee.

With its second Pasadena Tournament of Roses award in as many years, the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Committee chairman has one word on his mind: three-peat.

The committee earned the Tournament's Founders' Trophy for its 2013 entry, Sailing the Sea of Knowledge. The award recognizes "the most beautiful float built and decorated by volunteers from a community or organization.''

SPTOR Construction Chairman Chris Colburn said Tuesday's honor is a testament to the dedication and attention to detail exhibited by all of the float volunteers.

"From design to construction and then decoration it was the volunteers that made this happen. I don’t want to seem over zealous, but I think it’s time for an “SP three-peat,'' Colburn wrote in an email to Patch.

"We are super excited to be the recipients of back-to-back awards for our efforts. Last year we received the “Fantasy Trophy” for most outstanding display of fantasy and imagination for our entry “When Life Gives You Lemons.

"Our team of builders and decorators took our concept rendering and matched it to the finished product, all the way down to the last detail,'' he said.

And speaking of concepts, Colburn wants to let folks know the committee's looking for ideas for the 2014 parade, where the theme centers on dreams. Anyone with a concept in mind can go to http://sptor.com/pdf/SPTOR%20Design%20Form.pdf to print out an entry submission form and put their concept on the blank back of the form.
