Stay Cool L.A. County — Visit a Cooling Center or Splash Pad

Cooling centers and outdoor "splash pads" were open today throughout Los Angeles County to help residents beat the heat.

A map of the county's 94 cooling centers and 12 splash pads or pools can be found at bit.ly/BeatTheHeat2014. Hours and days of operation vary.

County officials suggested the county's 88 libraries as alternative spots to stay out of the heat.

Los Angeles city libraries are keeping their doors open until 8 p.m. every day until Thursday, and until 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

The following city senior centers will be open as cooling centers from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Thursday:

  • Canoga Park Senior Citizen Center, 7326 Jordan Ave., (818) 340-2633;
  • Sepulveda Recreation Center/Mid-Valley Senior Citizen Center, 8801 Kester Ave., (818) 756-8060;
  • North Hollywood Senior Citizen Center, 11430 Chandler Blvd, (818) 763- 7651;
  • Lake View Terrance Recreation Center, 11075 Foothill Blvd., (818) 899- 8087;
  • Sunland Park Senior Citizen Center, 8640 Fenwick St., (818) 353-9571; and
  • Sherman Oaks/East Valley Adult Center, 5060 Van Nuys Blvd., (818) 981- 1284.

Other city facilities will also welcome members of the public seeking refuge from the heat during regular business hours, though hours may be extended if the need arises.
