Where Have you Spotted a Coyote in South Pas?

Some residents believe there are several new packs of coyotes in town. Have you noticed more packs in South Pas this season?

Coyote sightings in South Pas. But some residents believe there are several new packs in town. Have you noticed more coyotes this season?

Here's what your neighbors are saying:

More Coyotes. Several new family's of coyotes have been spotted walking down the center of Laurel, Spruce and Milan. Their pack howls are being heard throughout the area indicating there may be several new packs. A family of four or five have been spotted living in the wash between Spruce and Laurel with one male estimated at 65 lbs—very large for a coyote. Pet owners need to be very careful when walking their pets and don't let your pets outside.

Tonight at 8:30 p.m., I had just stepped out of my car parked on Huntington Drive (close to the Alhambra road intersection) when I saw a coyote whiz by within a few yards of me. As a small female, it startled me and I stayed close to my car. The first coyote was followed by two more coyotes heading north on Huntington Drive just above the intersection at Alhambra Road. They were running across Huntington, up the center divider and then they disappeared into the west side of the street. I think I know where all those cats from the missing posters are now.

Patch Asks: Where have you spotted coyotes in town recently? Have you noticed more packs than usual?

Haven't seen any lately, but I don't live far from Huntington and Alhambra Road. I did received a missing-cat notice the other day and I thought that it was probably coyotes. My next-door neighbor lost a couple cats. I don't think you can safely let cats run around outdoors in this area.

A few days ago I saw three coyotes running east down Oak near Milan in the middle of the day. In the past, I'd only seen coyotes here very early in the morning. Maybe they move to South Pas for the good school district?

I have been hearing stories from my friends at Garfield Park, where we walk our dogs. I have the 2 dachshunds. I have personally seen the Coyotes running on Monterey Rd near Garfield, near the "Alhambra Wash", Also going up Fair Oaks, north of Huntington Dr. From what I have heard, they run at sunrise up busy streets not far from a wash or park, like they are on parade for the nocturnal

I have two citings. One right after Christmas, I saw two coyotes in front of a house at 5:30pm on the corner of Laurel and Marengo and the 2nd was yesterday at 6:00 pm on the corner of Laurel and Fair Oaks. Crazy!!!

On November 17th I saw three coyotes on Arroyo Blvd. Unfortunately one was running across the street toward Busch Place (not a through street) with a very large dark tabby cat in it's mouth.

Lets not worry about Coyotes. They are almost entirely harmless. They may eat your cats if you leave them outside. But outside cats eat wild birds so its just a circle of life thing. Long live the coyote.

Yes, had a mid-day sighting on Maple, but worry that this notice may cause a backlash and extermination just like the bear and mountain lions in Altadena. I grew up near the Huntington and would see coyotes and fox often. We enjoyed the wildlife and were careful. We shared the space. scared two away from my front gate. They were after my little dogs. I fixed the gate with wire mesh. no problems.

As I left my home just after 6 this morning, two coyotes were running down Spruce St, between Fremont and Ramona. I caught up to them in my car and saw a third, a tan one. We took the same route to Diamond, then Oak and, finally, Meridian, where we parted ways. It had been quite awhile since I'd seen any and the first time I'd seen more than one at a time.

I saw two coyotes on Stratford Avenue between Maple and Alhambra Road at 7:40AM this morning (1/16/12). We've been hearing them overnight more frequently lately.

We spotted a coyote while walking our dogs on January 25th 2012 around 9pm on S. Edgewood and Norwood. I grabbed the dogs while my boyfriend scared it down the street. Beautiful animals. But as a small dog owner very scary. We just moved into the neighborhood in August. This is our first sighting. Is it usual to have a sighting in this area? Is it safe to leave my dogs out during daylight? Definatly no more mid-night star gazing for my boy!

I've seen them near the east side of the high school on 3 occasions in the last few months. Cats and medium sized dogs are at risk more so in the evening and at night. Children under about 3 would be a possible target if alone but that is unlikely.

They live next door to us, in a den at the bottom of a hill on Oneonta- a pack of 7 or 8 of them. They killed our dog last year and they have chased elderly folks and their dogs before because they have no fear of people. They got someones cat 2 nights ago. As I am writing this,, they are right outside the door. They are looking for water and easy food. So keep your cat inside if you live around here.

Spotted a very large one on Hope St (near Fairview corner) at 6.30 am whilst walking my puppy this morning. Please be on alert, as this is further north than the areas mentioned in previous posts.
