Gifted Young Musicians to Perform at L.A. Chinatown's Moon Festival

Members of the award-winning Los Angeles Children’s Orchestra, directed by Susan Pascale, will perform at Los Angeles’ 74th annual Chinatown Moon Festival.

These talented youngsters, ages 5 to 12, are members of the Los Angeles Children’s Orchestra and the Los Angeles Children’s Chamber Orchestra. The orchestras are based at the South Pasadena Strings Program, and draw serious young string players from throughout Los Angeles County.

Their performance will include traditional Chinese melodies like “Jasmine Flower.”  “About half our kids have a Chinese heritage,” notes Pascale. “We’ve performed at many moon festivals over the years, and we’re always thrilled that they give us a great performance venue, and an opportunity for all our children to connect with Chinese culture.”

The children will leave their cases open during their performance to help raise money for a return trip to Carnegie Hall in spring of 2013. Dedicated parents will be selling homemade crafts, including jewelry. The monies go to the South Pasadena Music Foundation, a 501-c-3 charitable organization that will help cover travel expenses to New York.
