Laurie Allee to Showcase 'South Pas: Observed'

The popular Patch columnist and photo blogger will display her work at Charlie's Coffee.

Beloved and South Pas blogger, , will be displaying a collection of work at throughout October—with a reception Saturday at the cafe from 4 to 6 p.m.

Allee is calling the show "South Pas: Observed." And says longtime fans will likely recognize many of the photos adorning the coffee shop.

"I started my daily photo blog, Glimpses of South Pasadena, in July of 2008 as a way to explore my new hometown. Now, almost 1,200 pictures later, I find that the City is no longer just a subject but a sort of muse," Allee told Patch.

"The architecture, the heritage trees, the families, the sense of history and the feeling of lost time here never cease to inspire me to grab my camera. The photos in the exhibit at Charlie's represent some of the things I love most about South Pasadena."

In 2010, Allee was honored by Mayor Mike Ten with the —the city presents this award annually to individuals, organizations, and/or businesses who promote a positive image of the City beyond its borders.

You can also catch a feature on her photoblog in the September issue of Pasadena magazine.

Allee's column for South Pasadena Patch, , explores a different facet of South Pasadena every month. Click on the videos to your right for some of her previous photo montages.

Laurie's photography and writing have been a source of great inspiration and joy to me. She makes me see my home town in a completely new light as well as reminding me of the things I cherish here. I'm looking forward to seeing the exhibit!

Congrats. If SP wasn't already on the national map, you have certainly given it many faces upon which people can gaze and learn. Sorry I can't be there to hand you a bouquet.

Laurie says it with outstanding words and photographs. They linger long after the pages are closed. The spirit in the corner is me, waiting excitedly to see the exhibit.

It was a pleasure to be there! I'm the lucky one because I get to post it on my blog tomorrow. (If I didn't have a personal rule about smiley faces I would post one right here...)

Thanks so much Mike and Petrea! And thanks to everyone else who came to the reception and made it such a special event. I really appreciate it.

Petrea, it was very nice to have old fashioned "without technology" person to person conversation, and the same with Ron, it was a pleasure to TALK versus typing....

Ron, just a follow up on another local Patch bloger and friend http://articles.latimes.com/1989-04-13/news/gl-1614_1_tennis-court-racquet-centre-tom-leonard

I enjoyed meeting you, too, Mike. The best part about meeting people online is later on, when you get to actually meet them in person.
