The Upstage Theatre Arts School Staging 'Pirates of Penzance'

The Upstage Theatre Arts School will be having their second performance this summer, The Pirates of Penzance Jr. musical, on Aug. 9 and 10. The musical is a children’s production, and the cast range from the ages of 6 to 14.

Producer Adrian Cohen said that the theater group wanted to go a different direction from their previous production of Grease.

“This is more difficult to get into but when you do, it’s stronger and deeper,” said Cohen. “We think it’s great training for acting and singing; the songs are tough and the acting requires a lot of technique.”

The cast had to go through a three-week rehearsal in preparation for their roles, said Cohen. All are currently enrolled as students at the Upstage Theatre Art School.
