Patch Blog: Look What We've Done To The World

The other day I was looking at a video clip of Michael Jackson's "Earth Song." The two lines that struck me as very profound were "What have we done to the world, look what we've done."

No doubt we have abused much of what God created. One might go as far as to say that man has gone a little too far. Man has become so arrogant that he thinks that he doesn't need God anymore.

Maybe the words to this song should have been "What have we done with our lives, look what we've done." Let's take it a little further and say "Look what God gave to the world and look what we've done." It's evident that everything God created has a purpose; a rhythm and a reason. Needless to say, God created everything and it all comes with a blueprint which God calls his Divine plan.

I believe we are all born with this blueprint. A blueprint that can be modified as long as God's name remains on it. By all means man has accomplished all we have through advanced technology, advanced medicine and all things to make this a better world to live in.

However man has been known to get off course at times—and that deeply offends God. For the most part, I believe God is pleased with the world and though offended at times, he continues to love and forgive us.

Looking at the original words to the "Earth Song," "What have we done to the world, look what we've done." We have become a world that knows no peace, a world engulfed by immorality and a world that has total disregard for anything sacred. We are a world that has lost sight of the blueprint.

We continually hear the words, "it's a free world," but when we live by these words, we open ourselves up to a world of evil. We become self-absorbed and use the words, "Every man for himself." And so the blueprint ends up in the trash.

Yes, we are entitled to live our lives in freedom. A profound quote by Pope John Paul, "When freedom does not have a purpose, when it does not wish to know anything about the rule of law engraved in the hearts of men and women, when it does not listen to the voice of conscience, it turns against humanity and society."

I write today as a confession that I am guilty of ignoring the blueprint. Carefree and cavalier our society feels that going to church is lame and useless. We choose to live the "good life" without God. Therein lies the mistake. God does not expect us to put our lives on hold for Him; only that we include Him in our daily lives and that we keep His blueprint on hand should we need directions. That is living the "good life." Make God your best friend. God will always take your call.

I'm living proof that life can be good and fun as long as we take God along for the ride. Although I'm a Catholic brother, I like going to the casino. People ask me, "what about God?" Its a very simple answer, I take God with me.
