Crosswalk Repairs Underway

The replacement crosswalks will have a thickness of anywhere from 8.5 and 11 inches. The project is slated to be completed before the end of August.

The crosswalk replacement project is underway and scheduled to be completed by Aug. 31, according to City Manager John Davidson.

Below are details of the project provided by City staff:

  1. Removal of all north/south concrete crosswalks will take place on Fair Oaks between and excluding Columbia and Monterey.
  2. The replacement crosswalks will have a thickness of anywhere from 8.5 and 11 inches.
  3. The approved engineer design for the replacement project includes “doweling,” which consists of sections of 2 foot rebar placed throughout; this rebar will tie in the new concrete with existing street edges.
  4. All of the concrete in the existing crosswalks will be removed and new concrete crosswalks will be poured over native soil.
  5. Precautions are being taken to give the new crosswalks adequate time to cure; traffic will be reduced to two lanes (one lane in each direction) for the next three weeks to 22 days.
  6. The contractor, American Asphalt, and City staff will continue to work collectively in order to address traffic control/flow issues.
  7. The concrete repair project is slated to be finished Aug. 31; however, rain or unforeseen conditions could postpone this date.
