Don't Miss the South Pas Arts Crawl

Dubbed a "neighborhood night on the town'' by the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, the Saturday event runs from 5-9 p.m. in the business district.

How about an evening of free art exhibitions and live music?

Welcome to the South Pasadena Arts Crawl, organized by the South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce to showcase artists and musicians, and to highlight the city’s businesses, according to the chamber's website

Businesses along Mission Street, Fremont Avenue, Fair Oaks Avenue and Hope Street will participate in the event, with many boutiques offering deals on merchandise and extending their hours.

From the Chamber's website:

Hop between gallery openings and hear live music in the historic business district this weekend. This free event features a number of great shows, including recent paintings by artist members of the South Pasadena Arts Council (SPARC), a closing reception for Karen Green at SPACE Arts Center and several other group shows and exhibitions at the SPMC Gallery, Fremont Gallery, Tah Gallery and sopa Studios.

An amazing American Indian artist will demonstrate jewelry making at Santa Fe Crafts, The Gallery, and artisan demonstrations by marbling artist Barb Skoog and printmaker Annika Buxman will occur inside Book ‘em Mysteries and DeMilo Design.

Live music featuring Brad Colerick and Friends will be in two different spots, and at Kidd’s Jewelry Heist revellers can catch “The Podunk Poets”, a funky retro trio.

There will be fun for the kids in a jewelry making session at Kidd’s Jewelry Heist and “Breakfast for Dinner” at Mix n’ Munch. To get primed for Halloween, families can create their own pumpkin art under the creative guidance of local artists Val Trimarchi and Debra Van Der Zaag. Small, round “cannonball” pumpkins will be sold for a nominal fee at the Meridian Ironworks Museum and paints and supplies will be provided for free. After dark the museum wall will show a classic scary movie, projected by Videotheque. And for creative types that want to make hands-on art in real time, SPARC will host the Interactive Chalk Mural in the parking lot of Payke Gymnastics, across the street from the Chamber of Commerce.

Businesses that have announced sales and specials include:

  • The Dinosaur Farm will discount art supplies by 15%
  • Marz, Rue de Mimo and Camille’s will also have a sale during the event hours
  • Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt will offer 25% off during Arts Crawl
  • Zinnia is prepared to sell all Haloween merchandise at half-price.
  • Others have specials and offers that can be discovered inside the store.

Duncan Taylor Scotch Whiskey, which recently opened, will showcase craftsman furniture created from spent whiskey casks and wonderful paintings (painted in Scotland) of legendary distilleries. Meanwhile, across the street Mission Street Yoga will host an open house celbrating ten years in this location.

Food trucks will include Rolling Burger Barns, Jose O’Malley’s and Mesohungry, Paradise Cookies and Dosatruck. And the new and popular South Pas eateries will be hopping – including the traditional Irish pub, Griffins of Kinsale. For dessert, My Sweet Cupcakes offers a "Buy Three, Get One Free!" deal.

You can definitely follow specific news! If you only wanted to follow police and fire, for example,Read More click on the News tab on the home page. Then, down the left side of the page are multiple news categories. Click the one you want and then it'll ask you if you want to receive email updates about this topic. Once you do, it'll show you as "subscribed.'' If you follow "Top News'' you receive updates on all stories.

Personally I do not want to get updates on all stories under a given category. It is too bad that weRead More can no longer follow specific stories as we used to.... As it is I get too many e-mails.... I hope patch will consider to allow following of specific stories instead of all stories under a given category.
