Crews and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department don't know what caused the 76 Station owner to close the station.

Local drivers may have noticed the caution tape surrounding the at 2384 Foothill Blvd. in La Canada Flintridge, near the border of Montrose-La Crescenta.

"As far as we know, we have no idea why it closed," said Sheriff's Sgt. Brett Hanson of the .

Patch checked with Conoco Phillips customer service representatives but no information about why the station closed is immediately available.

Check back with Patch for more updates about why the gas station is closed.

What do you know about the closed gas station? Has this presented a problem for you when you need to fill up?

If the underground tanks leaked, the gas station most likely will not reopen due to the high cost of clean up.

@J, I was just wondering if you spotted a ghost or something there. That'd be interesting to look into.

That one has a 7-11 in it as well.

It takes forever as well. Their is a gas station up by Everest on foothill blvd that's been vacant due to a leak for over 15 yrs. (look for the corner station w/all the pipes and valves sticking out of the ground)

ConocoPhillips recently divested it's retail gasoline station business and refineries nationally moving them into the Phillips 66 Company (including the 76 brand). Phillips 66 no longer owns or operates any gas station in Los Angeles County (it just brands the business). So it's mom and pop who are running these businesses now. BP/ARCO and ExxonMobil are selling all of their retail gas stations as well (and will probably be out of the market by the end of the year). Tesoro will brand some of the former ARCO's (former Thrifty Oil) as USA Gasoline (so there goes the lower cash price option). Circle K are buying up some of the ExxonMobil sites.
