Is South Pas a Good Spot for Dunkin' Donuts?

The company stated in a press release that it is looking at opening shops in Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, San Bernardino, Ventura and Orange counties.

South Pasadena already has a Winchell's; but could Dunkin' Donuts, arguably its corporate nemesis, join the mix?

Dunkin' Donuts, announced recently on PR Newswire that it is expanding to Southern California with a long-term goal of having more than 15,000 Dunkin' Donuts restaurants in the United States.

"Specifically, the company is recruiting multi-unit franchisees for Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, San Bernardino, Ventura and Orange counties and expects restaurants in these markets will begin to open in 2015. The company is also interested in identifying qualified food service operators for a wide range of non-traditional venues including colleges and universities, casinos, military bases, supermarkets, airports and travel centers," stated the release.

Chief Executive Officer, Dunkin' Brands and President, Dunkin' Donuts U.S. Nigel Travis said, "Expansion to California has always been part of our plan to grow Dunkin' Donuts' presence in the U.S."

If Dunkin' Donuts comes to South Pas, my husband's life will finally be complete. :)

There's already quite a few hometown bakeries and coffee shops that don't get the business they need to survive at present and we already have a Winchell's--

Is there really any important difference between saying we don't want a business in our city because they are a national chain as compared to saying we don't want persons of a particular religion or race to be residents in our city ?

As a former Planning Commissioner in South Pasadena, I think the city should not dictate the type of legal business that comes into town if the business is not asking for unusual accommodations. A big box retailer would ask for unusual accommodations (zoning changes, traffic rerouting, etc.); a Dunkin' Donuts likely would not.
Whether South Pasadena is a good fit from a business perspective for DD is another issue, and that's a business decision for DD. An obvious prime location would be the corner of Fremont and Mission, but there are issues with the Mission Street Specific Plan that would impact DD locating at that site. Also, from a business perspective, DD offers two primary items, pastries and coffee. SoPas already has a crowded coffee marketplace: Charlie's Coffee House, Kaldi, Buster's, 4 Starbucks, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Heirloom Bakery, McDonald's and Winchell's. From the stand point of donuts/pastries/sandwiches, DD would have to compete with several established outlets as well: Winchell's, Heirloom, Charlie's, 4 Starbucks, Union Bakery, Munch Co., Subway, La Monarca Bakery, and Buster's, not to mention the major grocery stores, Von's/Pavilions, Ralph's, and Bristol Farms. The DD in Alhambra seems to have closed recently, probably due to a difficult access location. If we see a DD in SoPas anytime soon, it will likely be on the Huntington Drive corridor, to take advantage of the traffic, not in the city center, where the competition is greater.

Can't wait... Angelinos will finally have it all!

For the reasons already stated, I don't think DD would be interested in our saturated market. Not only do we have Winchell's, but there's a Yum Yum at Main and Fremont in Alhambra. Not to mention donuts at Vons and Pavillions.

Your husband and I should probably hang out.

Dunkin Donuts would probably run Winchells out of business if it was on that side of town because of SUPERIOR SUPER DELICIOUS COFFEE but they don't like moving "next door" to Starbucks. And there's a Starbucks there and on Huntington, two likely locations. I don't see them going to Mission St. because of all the great local shops there, now on 3 corners of Mission and Meridian.

I believe DD would not come to South Pasadena, because the city does not allow drive-thru's. So, I wouldn't get to excited about this issue.

You must be joking. 40 years ago I would have thought that'd be a great idea, but now in the year 2013 I think not. There are plenty of outlying communities for that sort of thing. Thankfully South Pasadena has special things to offer instead.

All aboard for Dunkin' Donuts arrival time somewhere near mta crossing gates aside of Monterey Road, and Pasadena Avenue.. Welcomes the Dunkin' Donuts food truck,, lolz dunk go up n’ dunk goes down. Now offering full doughnut service to all who await at those mta crossing gates, or near abouts. Wordplay: ‘likeatingoodoughnuts’? Then hurry on over to DD’s.. Two locations,, Garfield at Huntington Drive,, and next to most mta crossing gates.. Dunk goes up Dunk goes down. Honk horn, for Dunkin’ Doughnut Special! They have a data plan that can’t be beat.. lol

It will NOT work because South Pasadena residents are into healthy eating and exercising.

DD wOuld be a great addition to the ostrich park area. Other ideas for that same area would be a local tavern for a game of pool, have beer and watch a game and then adding a planet fitness could round it out to make for the perfect 3some. Morning, noon and night would be covered for all of us who live on the forgotten side of town (the other side of the tracks). The heavy commuter traffic would help ensure the big bucks for any developer who wants to steal my great ideas.

You can definitely follow specific news! If you only wanted to follow police and fire, for example,Read More click on the News tab on the home page. Then, down the left side of the page are multiple news categories. Click the one you want and then it'll ask you if you want to receive email updates about this topic. Once you do, it'll show you as "subscribed.'' If you follow "Top News'' you receive updates on all stories.

Personally I do not want to get updates on all stories under a given category. It is too bad that weRead More can no longer follow specific stories as we used to.... As it is I get too many e-mails.... I hope patch will consider to allow following of specific stories instead of all stories under a given category.
