La Monarca Bakery Opens on Mission Street

The bakery features made-from-scratch breads and sweets, and organic coffee. It is located on the corner of Mission Street and Meridian Avenue.

Just in time for Christmas.

La Monarca Bakery, which offers a variety of Mexican cakes, pastries and breads, opened its Mission Street eatery on Friday. Co-owner Alfredo Livas had eyed South Pasadena for a while, the San Rafael resident has told Patch, and believes the business will do well in the city.

The bakery, with stores in Huntington Park, East Los Angeles and Santa Monica, occupies the space that once belonged to The Kitchen Standard, 1001 Mission St., at the corner of Mission Street and Meridian Avenue. It specializes in sweet breads and organic coffee, and, according to the website, "All of La Monarca Bakery's products are 100% natural and are made without the use of lard, trans-fats, preservatives, artificial ingredients or ready-made mixes.''
