Monthly 'Food Truck Friday' to Come to Altadena This Week

This Friday, a new food truck event will be held at the parking lot behind Websters Pharmacy and Websters Fine Stationers. The owners of the stores hope it will become a regular event.

This Friday, nearby Altadena will host a new food truck festival that could become a monthly event.

Meredith and Michael Miller, the new owners of  (and ) and Lori and Scott Webster, the owners of  have teamed up to host the event, which will feature a collection of gourmet food trucks from around the county.

The Feb. 11 event will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the organizers are already planning for it to be held on the second Friday of every month in the parking lot behind Webster's at the corner of Lake Avenue and Marcheta Street.

For the first event next week there will be four trucks, according to Meredith Miller. They will be provided by the Rolling Bistros, a coalition of county food truck merchants.

"We want this to become a special event, something people want to show up to every month," Miller said.

According to Miller, here are the four trucks scheduled for the first event and some additional information from their websites:

  • The Hungry Nomad - According to the website, the truck specializes in Middle Eastern food, including various sandwiches, wraps, salads and pastries.
  • No Reservations - According to its Facebook page, No Reservations serves "California French Fusion style wraps and gourmet cheesecakes."  The truck's Yelp reviewers mentions its wraps, garlic fries, and various sandwiches with delicious-sounding meat and cheese combinations.
  • Shrimp Pimp - The truck serves fried shrimp and chips, shrimp 'po boys, shrimp ceviche, and various other shrimp and seafood sandwiches and salads.
  • Greenz on Wheelz - This truck is heavy on the salads, and any salad you order can be also ordered as a wrap, according to the site's menu.  There are also 'melt' sandwiches with "truck-made" Parmesan spread.  The salads come with "truck-made" dressing.

If there is strong attendance at the event, the number of trucks could increase, Miller said.

There's good reason to believe the event could become quite popular: a food truck festival last weekend at the Santa Anita race track  that some people waited over an hour for food.  There were 20 trucks at that event.

The event at Webster's could have a more relaxed feel though: there will be tables set out to make the event more accessible for families. Additionally, both the stores will be open until 9 p.m. for shoppers.

There will be parking available in the lot for early comers and street parking available in the area.
