Poll: Best Place To Grab Coffee?

Where's the best place in town to go, and why? Is it the music? The crowd? Or the menu?

After a short hiatus, Patch's Readers' Choice returns.

We ask: Where's your favorite place to grab a cup of coffee locally?

Whether it's for a shot of espresso, to get work done or to catch up with friends, tell us: Where's the best place to go, and why? Is it the music? The crowd? Or the menu?

If you frequent any of these places, cast your vote:

  •

But remember, this is not a scientific poll and the winner will be chosen based on poll results PLUS comments below, AND reviews and ratings on Patch Places.

So write a Patch Places review of your favorite place to increase its chances of winning.

And please: vote only once per survey, per Patch.

[Editor's Note: Chain establishments are excluded from Readers' Choice. Since we've got so many great independently-owned places in South Pas, it's only fair to leave out the national names.]

Starbucks in the Wells Fargo on Fair Oaks. The staff is the best. They know all the customers. All the best people in town go there!
Lisa Montoya-Tucker April 16, 2012 at 01:23 PM
Did you kind of forget the three Starbucks in town?? I know it is a big corporate site but I run into lots of friends at the State Street/Fair Oaks Starbucks. The service is very friendly and professional, and the store is very clean. I have tried all the other ones and they are great too. If there was a self-roaster in town, I would probably live there practically.

Just to clarify my comment about "I have tried all the other ones and they are great too," I should have said "I have tried all the other Starbucks and the places you mention on your contest, and they are all great." Thanks

Hi all: Comments previously weren't showing below this story. But the problem is fixed now!

I love Busters - locally owned and run and feels like they'll be there as long as South Pas is around. I went there before I moved here and my idea of a leisurely day is when I can hang out a bit sipping coffee in the a.m. There are other good ones but Buster gets my vote for a number of reasons: can take the kids and get icecream, food and egg creams! Like the contrasting places to hang out, always someone friendly willing to offer food/drink suggestions. I love their bread pudding, just tried it!!!

if you count the one in Pavilions, there are 4 Starbucks in this tiny little 3 mile radius town. Ridiculous.

You forgot to include Great Harvest on your list. Add it and then I'll be able to vote!
Lic April 16, 2012 at 05:50 PM
Heirloom is my go-to for coffee. Great Harvest runs a close second.
Case April 16, 2012 at 06:51 PM
BUSTER'S! They have my favorite coffee even if you include Starbucks which you're not for very good reason. You can't beat Buster's atmosphere, unique and central location, the $1 for 8oz option!, and the cafe food menu. They get all the bread they use from Homeboys Industries, which turns around the lives of former gang members. And the coffee is organic. These last two facts speak volumes about this LOCAL company.

Charlie's has become my favorite recently. The staff there are friendly, and their espresso is above average. I honestly have never had a good espresso elsewhere in town and until I discovered Charlie's, I had gone almost exclusively to Jones (with the occasional foray to Pete's).

I had heard about Buster's upon moving here, and the service was really bad. I'll never go back.

@Anita: Although Great Harvest is a South Pas staple, it is technically a franchise. So we have excluded it from this poll. Here's a Patch video we did on the inner workings of Great Harvest: http://patch.com/A-mMgh Check it out!

I do not understand Patch's unwillingness to include "franchises" or chains in these unscientific polls. Coffee is coffee. At any rate, Penguins is a chain and should not have been included by Patch's own standards. Patch itself seems to be a chain. If there were a poll on "Best Local News Outlet," by your own standard, Patch should not be included.
KKCA April 17, 2012 at 04:42 AM
Isn't Penguins a franchise as well?
Ted Beam April 17, 2012 at 03:43 PM
That's part of their "appeal."
Kristen Lepore (Editor) April 18, 2012 at 04:47 PM
Hi all: I took out Penguins from this poll because it is a franchise. I would be happy to run another poll on best coffee with all the chains. This poll was intended to promote indenpendently-owned businesses.
Paula April 18, 2012 at 09:45 PM
I love Heirloom even though the service can be well "confused" is the best word to describe them but the food and coffee are great and I don't know the names of the people that work there but the tall guy with glasses is really nice! I like Kaldi's as well. We do like Busters I just don't like the fact that they charge you to use a debit card!!!!! So many times I don't go because I only have a card and no cash on me so I simply cross the street to either Heirloom or Great Harvest.
Paula April 18, 2012 at 09:49 PM
Wow, I never even saw the Charlies coffee house I will have to try it!
TS April 19, 2012 at 04:35 PM
Love that Kaldi's now has a different flavored coffee each day! Quiet and lovely location to hang out inside or out - plus more space than some of the other coffee places. However their large coffee is now $2.72 (w/tax) - at Charlie's a large is just $2.00. And Charlies's does have a great coffee roast!

I adore Fiore! It's beautiful garden is a wonderful place to drink a cup of coffee, catch up with friends, or hang out with the kids (they get to run around in the little grassy area). It's food is superb! And the owner/staff is very kind. I walked in one day as it was closing and he actually recommended another cafe that closed later-competition in this poll. I highly recommend the roasted chicken pesto sandwich! Heaven for your taste buds!
