Old SS Guard at Auschwitz

Should a non- com soldier stationed at a concentration camp be tried for war crimes?

Here, in Philly, an 87 year old retired machinist, a naturalized American citizen, is being considered for deportation to face war crimes since he was a guard at the infamous Auschwitz Concentration camp. He was not a commissioned officer, and was, in fact, a minor at the time of his recruitment. His claim  is that he was stationed outside the "business" areas of the camp, and there are apparently no surviving witnesses to dispute this.

My feeling is that were he an officer, had some sort of input as to the grisly workings of so evil a place, he should be held accountable. By contrast, a kid at his post who fails to do what his CO tells him to do, especially during wartime, risks his own life. He's 87 years of age .. if he feels any guilt or remorse, then he is already in hell. Is it worth the thousands of taxpayers dollars to fly this man to a German courtroom for the purpose of confiming that addres? Is that justice, or just plain vengeance?

I'm curious as to how others view this
