Patch Blog: A Love Letter to South Pasadena

A glimpse into the fun, dynamic and lively world of the SPHS Tiger Marching Band. Please join us for a sneak preview screening at SPHS Dec. 4.

My new film, "Sweet Old World," is in part a love letter to South Pasadena. With tremendous support from the entire community, I was able to set the story of a father and son dealing with a painful past in the midst of the fun, dynamic, lively world of the Tiger Marching Band.

Everyone from School Superintendent Joel Shapiro to the Band Boosters to opened the doors wide and welcomed us. It was truly a wonderful experience.

I want to invite all of you to the sneak preview screening of "Sweet Old World" at the SPHS auditorium on Sunday, December 4, at 2 pm. This is a one time event, and I am looking forward to sharing the film with this community before taking it out in to the world.

My wife, Maryann Nielsen, grew up here and now teaches history and government at SPHS. I grew up in Hollywood, and in typical L.A. fashion had never set foot in South Pas before meeting Maryann, many (many!) years after graduating high school. Needless to say, I have fallen in love with it almost as much as with the woman who brought me here–and that's saying a lot.

Thank you, South Pas, and I hope to see all of you on the 4th.
