Boyle Heights Kids Receive Scholarships for Holy Family Drama Camp

For the third consecutive year, Wells Fargo sponsored a field trip for Dolores Mission School to Holy Family for a day of theater, food and fun.

Thanks to performing arts grants from Wells Fargo and other donors, 15 students from Dolores Mission School in Los Angeles will be able to attend the summer drama program of sister parish Holy Family School.

The announcement was made during a day when Holy Family students performed Beauty and the Beast, and Wells Fargo sponsored transportation to the play as well as meals and treats for more than 230 Dolores Mission School students, according to a press release from the bank. It is the third time the bank has sponsored the field trip.

“This day of live theater is so special and inspiring to our students,” said Karina Moreno Corgan, principal of Dolores Mission School. “For many of our children the performing arts are something they wish they could participate in more often, but our school just doesn’t have the budget or resources to provide.

"This annual field trip and the summer drama program is something the children will talk about for years to come.”

In 2012, Wells Fargo donated more than $315 million to nearly 20,000 nonprofits and community organizations across the country. More than $20 million of that funding was invested in Los Angeles-based organizations like Dolores Mission School.

“At Wells Fargo we know we can only be as strong as the communities we serve, and we believe that by funding educational programs for underserved youth we are helping to create the community leaders of tomorrow,” David DiCristofaro, Wells Fargo President of the Greater Los Angeles region, said in a prepared statement.

“Education in the performing arts will help these young leaders throughout their lives and Wells Fargo is happy to contribute to the type of growth opportunities that Holy Family School’s drama program provides.”
