How Gymnastics Boosts Girls' Performance and Self-Esteem at Payke

In the nearly 20 years that it has been around, the well-known Payke Gymnastics Academy on 1122 Mission St. in South Pasadena has turned out thousands of mostly female gymnasts. In a county where there's no shortage of gymnasiums to send kids to, Payke stands out not just in the achievements of its teams in various competitions but also in its reputation for boosting the self-esteem of the youngsters who train there.

In this video, Emily Rojas, a coach at Payke for the past three years or so who trained there herself offers a brief introduction about the academy. Then three parents explain how their daughters have benefited from the gymnastics regimen at Payke.

Bonus info: Debra Mosley, the first of the parents to speak, travels all the way from Sherman Oaks to get her daughter trained at the South Pas gymnasium ("It's totally worth it," she said).

Tiffany Walker, the second parent featured in the video clip, lives in Eagle Rock, as does Head Coach Soda Persi. The third parent is Dana Del George—a South Pas resident and self-admitted admirer of South Pasadena Patch and all that it offers to the community.
