Navigating South Pas Patch

Editor Kristen Lepore discusses changes to the site and how to find what you need.

As I'm sure most of you have noticed over the past month, the little editor picture at the top of South Pasadena Patch has changed. With off to for a journalism fellowship, I've come to fill some pretty big shoes.

I couldn't have asked for a community better than South Pas to introduce me to Southern California. Originally from Chicago, I'm loving my new home.

With the transition in editors, the weekly schedule of columnists has been changed a bit. Not to mention, our site is constantly going through design alterations. Because of this, I thought I'd take some time to address questions I've come across in the community, and tell everyone about some exciting features we have underway.

Since we've recently rolled out a new blogging feature highlighting various voices in the community (and we're still recruiting!), one common question I've heard is how to find particular columnists or articles missing from the homepage.

Here's a few tips:

Find out what's happening in South Pasadenawith free, real-time updates from Patch.

  1. When reading a story, there will always be related articles along the right-hand side of the page. For instance if you're reading City Walk, links to previous City Walks written by Margaret Finnegan will be visible on the right. If you're reading a story about Fair Oaks, the same applies. You can always find relevant stories on the right.
  2. At South Pas Patch, we have some great columnists. After reading Laurie Allee's  last Monday, you may have been seeking more of her work. Scroll down the page and before the comments section, you will find about five articles previously written by her. You can also click "See all Views from the Front Porch articles" to view . This can be applied to all columns.
  3. Use the search field in the upper right to find specific authors and topics. Type in an author's last name and his or her past articles will appear. If there is a particular topic you are interested in, type it in the box. All articles that include that key word will appear.
  4. The page tabs on the top are your friend. Looking for a sports story that ran last week? Go to the news tab and click on sports. Stories will display from newest to oldest. Other subheads include arts, schools, government, etc.

As usual if you ever have a problem finding an article, don't hesitate to reach out to me (Kristen.Lepore@Patch.com).
