Enjoy art collections, botanical gardens, and, if you're a scholar (or graduate student), one of the premiere research libraries in the country, filled with rare and original texts. Open Wednesday through Sunday, the Griffith Park Observatory is open to the public and free. From the dome high on a hill, patrons can experience exhibits, engage in activities, and watch the L.A. skyline (with or without the help of a telescope). Originally purchased as a ranch in 1882 by Colonel Griffith Jenkins, this local treasure is now yours to enjoy.
