South Pas Man Allegedly Attacks his Father with a Chair

A 22-year-old man destroyed furniture inside his parents' house and used one of the wooden chairs to strike his father, according to a South Pasadena Police bulletin.

Sgt. Brian Solinsky said Tuesday officers had to wrestle Leo Cherng to the ground, after allegedly verbally and physically assaulting his father Friday morning. Police arrested Cherng on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.

Authorities responded to the 300 block of Pasadena Avenue at 9:30 a.m. Friday regarding a domestic assault. There, they found the victim had sustained minor injuries while deflecting the attack, Solinsky said. As police spoke with Cherng, the suspect "was uncooperative and took an aggressive fighting stance while trying to pull away from the officers,'' he said.

The officers regained control of the suspect and wrestled him to the ground. He was later booked into the Los Angeles County Jail. No officers were injured during incident, Solinsky said.

The South Pasadena Police Department has "zero tolerance" toward criminal activity and will be vigilant in investigating all crimes, according to the crime bulletin. The department encourages citizens to report any criminal activity.
