Woman's Club Needs Cookies for Homeless and Hospitalized Veterans

Whether you bake the cookies or buy them, the Woman's Club of South Pasadena needs your help.

With Memorial Day coming up, it is time again for "Operation Cookie,'' where volunteers package the treats in decorative tins and deliver the cookies to veterans who have been wounded, and to those who live on the street.

The project dates back more than 70 years, when members of the club sent cookies to soldiers serving in WWII. According to the WCSP website, volunteers also baked and purchased cookies for military personnel serving in the Gulf War, Bosnia, Croatia, and Kosovo. There was a lapse following 9/11 due to security reasons and the expense of mailing overseas, the website states, but the project is in full swing again for veterans.

Home-baked cookies are the most popular, but the woman's club is also accepting quality pre-packaged cookies. Volunteers should bake or buy a minimum of two dozen and drop them off curbside on Wednesday between 8 a.m. and noon. An alternative delivery time is Tuesday between 4-7 p.m. The club is located at 1424 Fremont Ave. in South Pasadena.

Because there are veterans with dietary restrictions, sugar free and gluten free cookies are also welcome. The sweets will be delivered prior to Memorial Day. To read more about the project, and read about other ways you can volunteer, please click here.
