So Pas Community Garden Committee to host town meeting

The South Pasadena Community Garden ad hoc committee will host a town meeting on 2-9-13 in Council Chambers, from 10 am to noon.  The purpose of the meeting is to inform SP gardeners about the proposed community garden in our city.  A survey was done in 2011 to determine local interest and the positive feedback from the survey indicates there is an interest and a desire for such a garden.

The committee has worked hard in the last few months to identify possible sites and to anticipate needs and issues.  Committee members have met with other local community garden reps, developed a preliminary site plan, discussed hours of operation, security, notified neighbors close to the site, etc. More work and volunteers are needed to establish the community garden.

It is anticipated that the garden will consist of individual raised bed plots to be rented and worked by each gardener, and it may include a gathering or staging area for talks or demonstrations.

South Pasadenans are encouraged to participate in this meeting, find out more about this exciting addition to the city, ask questions, possibly even put in an application for a plot.

I and my neighbors living adjacent to the proposed site, were ignored when considering its effects on our property values and the noise, traffic and parking it would bring to our quiet dead end street. The proposed 50 sites, could bring 50 to 100 people into our small street. People we have never met or have any assurance they are in fact gardeners. We have families here with young children who, along with other residents in the area, like to walk down our safe quiet street. The committee proposing this site, has somehow been allowed to circumvent the zoning variance procedure by officials of our city government. This is a cruel post facto eminent domain end run that shouldn't be allowed.

Hi Bert. Have you made your concerns known to the city? Do you think you might attend the meeting on the 9th?

As we didn't learn of the proposed site until a flyer was handed out this last week, we were blindsided. I don't know what legal maneuvers are at play by the committee and city officials, but rest assured, we're going to find out. And the City Council is going to be made well aware of our feelings.

Dear Ms. Kilby, please make sure that all council members receive copies of the email right away. Time is of the essence.
Dear Council members, imagine how you would feel if found yourself in a meeting to discover that the presenters intended (with your city council members apparant approval) that this April you would have an influx of at least 100 people (most of them complete strangers) required by contract to appear at least every two weeks to the vaccant Cal Trans lot just across the street to work their plot at the Community Garden. At no time has any indication been given to me or my immediate neighbors as to the consideration of the lot during the winnowing process. I understand that this committee has by passed us completely and now is in the proccess of meeting with Cal Trans for the purpose of leasing said property. I have lived here over 40 years - I was very active in the closing of our street. I continue to enjoy the neighborhood which is quiet, peaceful, and friendly. I have supported the continuous fight to stop Cal Trans from destroying our unique town. Please support me to stop the loss of my neighborhood peace and quiet that has existed for all these years. If you do not stop this "taking", come April there will never be a normal weekend for me to enjoy the peaceful residential life that we all enjoy. Thank you for the attention. Please let me hear from you.

Personally I do not want to get updates on all stories under a given category. It is too bad that weRead More can no longer follow specific stories as we used to.... As it is I get too many e-mails.... I hope patch will consider to allow following of specific stories instead of all stories under a given category.
