Free Concert: Choral Masterworks based on Biblical Psalms

The Wagner Ensemble, under the direction of Jeannine Wagner, will perform a trio of choral masterworks based on Biblical Psalms: Handel's Dixit Dominus, Bach's Actus Tragicus Cantata 106 and Mozart's Vesperae Solennes de Confessore. The performance features vocal soloists and chorus, accompanied by orchestra.

The concert is a musical tribute in memory of soloist Marilyn Savage, a critically acclaimed mezzo-soprano and long-time resident of South Pasadena, who performed with the Roger Wagner Chorale, National Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Symphony with Arthur Fiedler, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and was founder of the distinguished Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Bach Soloists. She was the first American to play Eliza Doolittle in the National Company of My Fair Lady and was also known for her role of Marion the Librarian in the National Company's The Music Man.

The Wagner Ensemble was founded by Jeannine Wagner in 1991 under the auspices of the Roger Wagner Choral Institute. Under her spirited guidance, the Ensemble celebrates and promotes the musical legacy of her late father, the legendary Roger Wagner. The Wagner Ensemble has dazzled audiences throughout Southern California and internationally in the performance of repertoire that includes choral masterpieces spanning the centuries from the Renaissance to the present.
