Red Car Trolley - In Concert

An Incomplete History of European and American Song

Los Angeles, CA. [April 9, 2014] — Red Car Trolley returns to the Eastside, May 18, at 4:00 p.m. in concert at Church of the Angels in Pasadena.  The quartet of talented singers will explore unaccompanied vocal music from 1114 to 2014, embarking with medieval chant, Renaissance polyphony, and classical-era masterworks, traveling through songs of barbershop, spirituals, jazz, and rock, and finally landing with a world premier piece by Dr. Robert Parker, hot off the presses, and written especially for Red Car Trolley.  Other composers include Hildegard von Bingen, Tomas Luis de Victoria, Johannes Brahms, Stephen Foster, George Gershwin, The Beatles, and Southern Californians Morten Lauridsen and Jim Stanley.  Such a wide array of songs and styles is sure to delight any music lover.

Music is an integral part of worship at Church of the Angels. If you like to sing (and also if you just like to listen), you will find at Church of the Angels a welcoming, singing congregation. We sing music of all periods ranging from medieval all the way to brand-new compositions, some even written by the Music Director. Reflecting our Anglican heritage, we have a special affinity for music of the Renaissance-Tudor period, and we also like doing chant in English and occasionally Latin. The church is home to the the Frank Roosevelt Organ, Opus #433, an important instrument that provides a snapshot in the history of the evolution of the organ.
