Say Hello To Our Little Friend (aka New Neighbor) - art/work/place!

We are excited to announce to the world that we’ve recently acquired an upstairs neighbor at the Green Brooms facility called art/work/place. And I figure a proper welcome would entail me giving you a little more information about them. It’s only fair.

art/work/place is an art studio offering classes for all ages, including a youth curriculum customizable for ages 6-18. Classes are offered Monday through Friday at 3:00pm, 4:45pm, and 6:30pm. During class students explore five key aspects of fine art training--study, exploration, observation, imagination and creation. The classes are all about seeing, problem solving, experimentation and playful enjoyment. (Sure beats my just-put-the-brush-on-the-paper training I had in school.) And just in time for summer, art/work/place will be offering a weekly summer program Monday through Friday from 10am - 1pm. Check out their website at www.myartworkplace.com for more information.

But grown ups, fear not. art/work/place also offers adult classes called “Saturday Night...ism.” How cool is that?! You (yes, you!) can take a three hour class that entails a project demonstration for the evening and then time to create on your own. Might just be time to get those creative juices flowing again!

The owner, Margaret, was classically trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and has an in-depth history of introducing the arts to kids. She even founded and developed a Portfolio Prep program in Ann Arbor, Michigan that helped college-age students wanting to transfer to four-year art schools obtain scholarships for their portfolio work. Plus, having spoken to her many times now, I can attest that she is a lovely person and genuinely cares about art education. (And, I can make such bold statements because I don’t have a copy editor reading this before it posts. So sneaky, I am.)

As I mentioned in my last post, both art/work/place and Green Brooms Music Academy will be participating in the Eclectic Music & Art Festival this Saturday, May 3rd from 2pm-6pm. We would love for you to come by and take a tour of the facilities and meet all of us. We will have live music outside, a mural painting activity and two raffles for free music and art lessons! So please do stop over to 803 Fremont Avenue this weekend--we’d love to see you!

Stay cool,
-Lindsay
