Where to Celebrate New Year's Eve

With Christmas gone, we still have New Year's Eve to look forward to. Here are some ways to end 2011 in culinary style.

Feast on a decadent three-course meal at restaurant and bar.  A few of the prix fixe dishes that you can choose from include: mushroom risotto with truffle oil; grilled prime NY strip with potato and onion gratin, grilled broccolini and bordelaise; and bouillabaisse with steamed mussels, clams, blue point prawns, saffron-lobster broth and rouille.  For dessert, you might decide to indulge in the chocolate espresso cake with raspberries and mascarpone.

$55 per person, $75 with wine pairing.  Full prix fixe menu here.  For reservations, (626) 799-7199.

Enjoy a four-course meal while listening to Sergio Daae on violin and Steve Thompson on keyboard at this highly rated restaurant in the Zagat guide.  Prix fixe selections include Hudson Valley foie gras on poached pear with port wine sauce; yellowtail carpaccio with fresh ginger silvers and olive oil; grilled Maine Lobster and sea scallops with herb butter sauce; and roasted New Zealand lamb chops with natural au jus.  For dessert, Shiro is serving crispy wonton skins with orange custard and berries.

Chef Paul Rosenbluh of Firefly Bistro will be whipping up a prix fixe dinner in a creative England vs. France “face-off.”  On the English side, the options include: cider braised lamp pie with roasted pearl onion vinaigrette and minted carrot; grilled flat iron steak with salt pork roasted potatoes, buttered asparagus and stout Worcestershire; and for dessert, steamed ginger pudding with rum anglaise.  On the French side, the lineup consists of: olive oil fried oyster with melted leeks, saffron tomato crush, and smoked garlic remoulade; pan seared duck breast with foie gras dumplings, baby carrot, scallion and sour cherry jus; and for dessert, chocolate bottom crème brûlée with hazelnut madelines.  The Royal Blues Brothers with Barry “Big B” Brenner on guitars and vocals and Jeff Dutch Masters on harmonica will be playing during the “face-off.”

Reservations from 5:30pm – 10pm.  $65 per person.  For the menu, click here. For reservations, (626) 441-2443.
