Curious how many people are getting on and off the Gold Line each day in the cities along the route and where the popular stops off?
Metro has a new visualization on its site that show exactly that, for the Gold Line, as well as for every other rail line in the system.
The results for the original Gold Line are not particularly surprising, with the most boardings and departures coming at the two populous ends of the line in Pasadena and Downtown Los Angeles. The new extension to East Los Angeles also shows a large ridership.
The South Pasadena and Highland Park stations, as showed above, are also ridden pretty frequently to Downtown Los Angeles.
The quiet stops are all between Highland Park and Union Station, at the Chinatown, Lincoln Heights, Heritage Square and the Southwest Museum stops.
In total, there were 41,078 from July 2011 to June 2012, according to the Metro. The ridership for all the lines in the county is as follows:
- Red Line 113,395
- Purple Line 38,396
- Green Line 43,402
- Gold Line 41,078
- Blue Line 82,212
