What Gonzalez Has To Say About His New Role

Gonzalez hopes to hire an assistant city manager and "tackle infrastructure" in his new position.

In an email to Patch Thursday, explains what he's looking forward to in coming months.

“I certainly look forward to the challenges but also the opportunities as the City Manager of a remarkable city. We have a great city council, talented staff and a community that is very engaged. I see that we have all the right pieces to move our city forward.

I definitely want to tackle our infrastructure, rebuilding the water facilities, sewer system and increasing our commitment to repairing our streets. I have full intention to hire an assistant city manager.

I would like to have a dedicated effort on two fronts.

One is economic development by working proactively with the Chamber of Commerce to attract the appropriate businesses to South Pasadena, while providing support to those already here.

The second area is working to identify and implement best practices and efficiencies in everything we do as a local government agency. This includes working with executive staff in all city departments to implement efficiencies to not only control/reduce costs but to also deliver better services to our residents.

I would also like to build upon the success of the recent public budget meetings by increasing the opportunities for residents to get involved and/or become more informed.”
