Blog: Who Wants to Share Work Space in South Pas?

Would you like to have a Coworking Space available in South Pasadena?

I spent 10 years of my working life commuting from South Pas to the West Side.  Grim and expensive. Then I spent 9 years working from home.  Lonely and full of distractions.  I recently was introduced to the concept of coworking spaces.  If you're not familiar, it's a space for people like me who work independently, don't want to commute far, can't afford their own office, and love being around people! The space is set up with workstations, a couple of private offices, a conference room and internet access....then whatever other amenities it chooses to provide.  People can rent a station, office, conference room time - by the day, week, month, whatever.

There are examples around LA you can look into....and LOTS of examples in Northern California (and Tokyo for that matter...good things get around).  If you're interested, surf around. One article: http://www.inc.com/ss/christina-desmarais/16-cool-coworking-spaces.html#1.

I think coworking in South Pasadena would be HEAVEN.  Think of it...our own little eclectic working community in our own little eclectic town.  I have a space in mind, but no capital to speak of and NO IDEA whether I'm the only one interested.

Your thoughts?

Take the Gold Line to Kleverdog Coworking in Chinatown until you open your own place in town.

Micki - I'm in West LA, but have been exploring this idea (combined with a daycare - http://tamrajohnson.com/2012/11/08/the-trend-of-co-working-and-childcare/) for a while. There is a pretty big support community online that can help you with some of the standard things you'll need to get something going: https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!forum/coworking

Thank you all for your great input! Here's my question for now...if there was a cool co-working space in the South Pas Mission District area...would you rent space regularly? Occasionally?

I definitely would be interested. I need a small private office space for my massage business but cannot afford a suite by myself. I live near Mission and Meridian and I'd love to be able to walk to work, especially if I'm able to leave my equipment set up and secure. Kneady144@att.net

I'd love to see something like this in South Pasadena. As a recent transplant from Brooklyn, I'm used to seeing people during the day even when I'm working from home. Here in South Pasadena, the sight is far more rare. Is there a significant work-at-home contingent in town?
