I'm usually not one to even care about an election. On a rare occasion I'll actually listen to someone talk about the candidates and it rarely sparks any interest for me. Usually the smaller the election the less I actually care. This year I was invited to a meet the candidates evening for school board candidates. The difference was I already knew all three of the candidates. These three candidates have been involved in our public schools in the classrooms, in PTA , SPEF and/or the School board for years. They are heavily involved and committed to our communities and have earned my respect, something I have very little of for many individuals involved in politics.
The host for the event I attended asked the crowd an important question. "Who are the candidates and how have they served our schools?" The more I dug the more I saw three of the candidates involved for years in building up and supporting our schools. These candidates are:
Julie Giulioni - Number 2 on the ballot Michele Kipke - Number 3 on the ballot Elisabeth Eilers - Number 5 on the ballot
I can't say anything bad or good about the other two candidates. I'm sure they are more qualified than me. All I can say is I don't know them personally. I haven't seen how they are involved in our community and I couldn't find anything which indicated how they support South Pasadena Public Schools. It's not that they may not be great people. I just don't know them or about them.
All I ask is that you vote and vote as an informed voter. If you know the other two candidates personally and want to support them please do so and tell others about their community involvement. If not, I encourage you to not take my word for it, but google each of the five candidates and see the level of community involvement some have, while others appear to have limited to no community involvement. Change takes place at the local level and is based on well informed voters making good decisions. It is the reason we are in this district, how we keep great teachers and why we have some of the best parents in S. Cal that are involved and committed to making South Pasadena a great place to learn and live. Our schools are important so make your vote count.
