Patch Blog: AYSO Opening Ceremonies Saturday

AYSO soccer season 2011 has begun.

Last Saturday my son had his first soccer game for AYSO soccer in South Pas this season. The game didn't count because it was a practice game, but it was still intense. As I sat waiting for my son's game to begin, I couldn't help but notice all the families out supporting their soccer players.

My sons have played everything from South Pasadena Little League baseball to YMCA basketball to AYSO soccer. I didn't grow up playing sports, so attending their games have opened up another world to me. That's the world of committed sports families who spend years hanging out with each other in a great community—while their kids develop great skills playing sports.

I am now convinced that organized sports help bring families together in a good way. What else brings so many parents and their kids together weekly for games and events year-round? My son's soccer team won their first practice game of the season. It was alot of fun and we look forward to a great season!
