Patch Blog: SPHS Girls Track and Field Wins CIF Championship

SPHS Girls Track and Field makes history with its first CIF Championship. Congrats!

Competing in the CIF Division III Track and Field Championships on Saturday May 19 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California, the South Pasadena Girls team defeated the top Division III track programs including powerhouse private schools Mater Dei High, Alemany and Harvard Westlake to take the first place team championship.

In a true team victory, the Tigers amassed 62 total points without a single individual event champion but scored 2nd though 8th place finishes in a variety of events including sprints, hurdles, relays, jumps and distance races.

Every point mattered as 2nd place Mater Dei finished just two points behind.

In a classic finish, the meet came down to the final event of the day as the girls 4x400 relay team raced to a school record time and 3rd place finish to secure the team victory and give South Pasadena High School its first ever CIF Track and Field team title.
