100+ Firefighters Fight Brushfire in Area Cemetery

A large plume of smoke towered above a brushfire as it blackened two acres of rugged terrain in the Forest Lawn Glendale cemetery on Sunday.

The fire was spotted just before noon inside the cemetery at 1000 E. Chevy Chase Drive, firefighters said.

Some 22 engine companies, with more than 100 firefighters, were rushed to a staging area just downhill from the fire, at the corner of Chevy Chase at Adams Avenue on Glendale's southeast side.

Firefighting helicopters from the City of Los Angeles played a prominent role in quickly knocking the fire down, a witness said.

L.A. also sent ground crews in mutual aid. No structures were damaged, according to preliminary reports.
