3 Overnight Crashes Reported on 210 Freeway

Foothill (210) Freeway transition lanes were blocked in both directions in Pasadena early this morning after a series of multi-vehicle collisions, authorities said.

The first, involving three big rigs and a Mercedes Benz, closed the two-lane connector road between separate sections of the eastbound 210 around 11:35 p.m. Wednesday, California Highway Patrol Officer Alex Rubio said. No injuries were reported.

The second, around 12:30 a.m., closed the westbound transition lanes of the freeway, which also connect separate sections of the 210 west, after a big rig jackknifed and collided with a sedan.

In a third incident, a big rig jackknifed at 12:40 a.m. and blocked the two transition lanes on an overpass from the eastbound Ventura (134) Freeway to the westbound 210, according to the CHP online incident log.

The connector lanes for the 210 east run through two tunnels beneath the transition lanes from the Foothill Freeway to the Ventura (134) Freeway. The CHP log said the collisions on this stretch started with a jackknifed big rig in the second tunnel.

One of the big rigs leaked an extensive amount of oil onto the road, according to the incident log. A SigAlert for the eastbound lanes was issued at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.
